New Requirements for the RSPS Certification

A NEW! path to earning the Resort and Second-Home Property Specialist (RSPS) Certification has been created. The RSPS Workgroup has decided to change the core course requirements. The RLI Tax Deferred (1031) Exchange course will no longer be a required course to complete the certification. Applicants must complete only one required course – The Resort and Second-Home Markets Course. This course is offered both online and in a classroom setting, please check course calendar for locations near you!

In addition to this new requirement change, the RSPS Workgroup has also expanded list of electives to include two additional designations as well as the RLI Tax Deferred (1031) Exchange course.The following designations are now accepted in place of the two elective courses:

 

• Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR®)
• NEW! Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM)
• Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS)
• Certified Property Manager® (CPM®)
• Certified Residential Specialist (CRS)
• NEW! Council of Real Estate Brokerage Managers (CRB)
• NAR’s Green Designation (GREEN)

Members of the RSPS Workgroup decided that because these designations have such extensive education and training requirements, REALTORS® with these designations have already fulfilled the elective requirement needed to earn the RSPS Certification.

The new requirements will help foster networking and referral opportunities between members of the Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council (REBAC), the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), the Council of Residential Specialists (CRS), and NAR’s Resort and International Groups. NAR’s Resort and Second-Home Markets course counts as an elective for the ABR® and the CRS designations.
